oh baby ~ Introducing Lila

This is Lila. Tiny. Sweet. Beautiful.

And a story. Because I’m still in awe at this small world we live in.

Lila’s mom is Erika, the owner, baker, and mastermind behind the delectable bakery in the Highlands called Living the Sweet Life. Erika and I met for the first time this summer when we happened to be working together at Lauren & Rian’s Chatfield Botanic Gardens wedding.

And this is where the ‘small world’ comes in..

Because when she introduced herself, Erika told me about her man JP – the same JP who happens to be a long lost dear friend of mine from days of yore, back from those years spent gallivanting around the globe. I met JP while living and working in Switzerland, in the tiny alpine village of Crans-Montana, where I worked for 8(!) summers (JP was there for two of them) It is a place that is so important to me, and the friendships formed during those years hold a special place in my heart. So to be able to reconnect in this circuitous manner is incredible. I’m still in awe. And honored to have the opportunity to photograph their newborn baby girl.

Just a few favorites from a recent Colorado family portrait session with one of my all-time favorite families. You probably recognize the N Family – they have graced the pages of my website many times over the years, since before that little toothless wonder (pictured above) was born.

One thing I love about photographing families is documenting the interaction between the children and their parents – real authentic moments with all sorts of personality shining through.. A few of my faves giggles love ♥

Full circle. That’s what it’s all about. Documenting life as it changes and evolves.. from engagement to wedding to growing family. I photographed Heather & John‘s wedding two years ago at Ten Mile Station in Breckenridge, and now they’re about to welcome their first baby. Full circle. Denver Children’s Portraits ~ Stu Stu Studio

For portrait sessions I typically shoot outdoors – I love natural light and being able to use our beautiful state of Colorado as my backdrop.. But occasionally an opportunity arises to do work in the studio, so I get to transform my little boutique in Wash Park into a portrait studio and work outside of my comfort zone. It’s a different kind of experience, allowing me to shoot clean, beautiful portraits – keeping my background simple and really allowing these little personalities to shine.

I have worked with this family for several (5+!) years now.. and I just adore them. I love being able to get a glimpse into their lives over time, documenting these kids as they change and evolve, and I still can’t get over how grown up they are! (I even did a baby’s first year package when A, the youngest child, was born)

These are some pretty wonderful kiddos, with some pretty wonderful parents. A few faves..

I’ve been Josh and Alissa’s photographer for several years now, documenting many of their milestone moments – engagement, wedding, trash the dress, maternity, and now baby. Full circle. I love that. Colorado Maternity Portraits

You may recognize Alissa & Josh.. maybe from their gorgeous Colorado engagement session atop Vail mountain.. or possibly from their incredible dowtown Denver wedding where we got to shoot in LoDo in the rain (before heading to the Evergreen Lake House for the reception).. or perhaps it was from Alissa’s ah-mazing ‘trash the dress‘ photo shoot in the water? Regardless, Alissa & Josh are well-versed as models in front of the camera, and they are some of the most incredible people that I know. When they contacted me to tell me the news they were having a baby I was absolutely thrilled. They are going to be the most amazing parents.

I don’t tend to shoot very many maternity sessions, but I love it when the opportunity presents itself… and lately we seem to be experiencing a bit of a baby boom at the studio. I photographed Andrea & Jim’s gorgeous Denver wedding at Phipp’s Mansion in back in 2007, and was absolutely thrilled when they contacted me about photographing their new family. So here’s just a quick favorite (well, two) from Andrea’s recent portrait session – Full circle. I love that.

Denver Kids Portrait Session

I love working with children.. I love their energy, their playfulness, their curiosity. And I love being able to capture this slice of life which, as all parents know, can be so fleeting. It is particularly wonderful when I have the opportunity to work with the same family year after year – as is the case with the M family – what a pleasure to document these kids as they grow from babies to toddlers to boys.
