This is Spencer. And I am in awe of this boy.
Well, actually, I am in awe of his entire family.
I shot this portrait a year and a half ago, during a very special session with his family. Spencer’s younger sister Tuesday, at 18 months old, had been diagnosed with neuroblastoma cancer. (you can see the blog post HERE) And a few short months later, in January 2009, 2-year-old Tuesday passed away, survived by her parents, her two brothers, and her twin sister. And her extended family. And the countless lives she touched.
So it is in his sister’s honor that her brother Spencer, along with several of his classmates and many others within the community, will be participating in the upcoming St Baldrick’s charity event to be held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds this Friday, March 19th. They have gathered sponsors and will be getting their heads shaved to promote awareness and raise money for pediatric cancer research. For anyone interested in sponsoring Team Tuesday – either by donation or by volunteering to get your head shaved :) – click here to visit the St Baldrick’s website. Just had to share this quick children’s portrait taken of my little guy this morning – he just lost his two front teeth and was so giddy with excitement, wondering if his friends will recognize him at school today ;)
You may remember Trudi and Matt – I was the photographer for their wedding back in June of 2007 with a ceremony at the Air Force Academy Chapel in Colorado Springs, and a rockin’ reception at Denver’s Grand Hyatt Pinnacle Club. Amazing wedding, amazing couple. And almost immediately after the wedding Trudi and Matt moved out of state. So when I received an email saying that they were planning a summer visit to Colorado with their 9-month old baby and wanted to schedule a portrait session, I was absolutely thrilled. Absolutely. Full circle. That’s what it’s all about.

Colorado summer portraits.. and with all of the rain we’ve been having everything is so vibrantly green and lush – a perfect backdrop for a portrait session. M & G are adorable sisters – so gregarious and expressive and full of energy. They danced for me, they twirled, they sang, they laughed, and they even braved the rustic nature of our location (translation: mosquitos and spiders!)
